The solar PV industry in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) has grown to comprise of large-scale ground-mounted projects, commercial and industrial (C&I) installations, mini-grids and solar home systems (SHS) among others. Spurring this growth in recent years is the emergence of energy storage systems (ESS), which are proving to be especially important to the C&I market.
Titus Koech, the Technical Services Manager for SSA at JinkoSolar, explains: “Considering the poor and unreliable grids in most parts of SSA, solar+ ESS seems to provide cheaper alternative source of power in the event of grid outage. This serves to cushion many businesses and manufacturing facilities from the impacts of constant and unpredicted power outages.”
Join Koech and fellow industry experts in a live conversation on the critical and growing role that energy storage plays in accelerating the clean energy transformation.
