The Minister of State at the Ministry of Energy, Honourable Herbert Krapa, commissioned AFRICA’S LARGEST SOLAR ROOFTOP PROJECT on July 25th, 2024. This project, owned by Helios Solar Company (Helios), a subsidiary of LMI Holdings, is in the Tema Free Zone Enclave and will supply 16.82 megawatts of energy to Helios and its partners. This significant achievement by Helios Solar underscores its commitment to facilitating Ghana’s industrialization ambitions and represents a milestone in the country’s renewable energy sector.

The project is fully funded by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) as part of a $30 million clean power and water deal with LMI Holdings. This funding supports job creation, greener and more sustainable industrial development, and increased competitiveness in Ghana. Compared to current thermal power on the national grid, the solar plant is expected to reduce Ghana’s emissions by approximately 13,000 tons of CO2 equivalent annually.
