The South African Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) has launched a request for proposals for 2 GW of dispatchable power to deal with an acute generation shortage that is causing black outs across the country. This tender is looking to award long-term PPAs to facilities which can produce electricity from 5 am to 9:30 pm. Gas, and PV plus battery storage systems will be the main contenders in this tender launched under the Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (RMIPPPP).
