Providing modern energy access to its entire population is DRC’s long-term goal. If large-scale hydropower is needed to meet the increasing energy demand and to export electricity to neighboring countries, solar, wind, small-scale hydropower, biomass and geothermal will be significantly increased, moving forward, in the whole energy mix. Furthermore, the development of decentralized systems is key – with barely 16% of the population having access to electricity, the DRC government is working to improve rural electrification through off-grid solar solutions, storage systems and other mini-grids technology. The scaling-up of the overall power generation through renewables will provide investors, developers and consultants unlimited business development opportunities in the country.
