Among the prime speakers in the program will be H.E. Dr. Bachir Ismael Ouedraogo – Minister of Energy of Burkina Faso and Dr. Bruno Korgo – General Director for Renewable Energies at the Ministry. There is a strong involvement of the authorities in this event and all the key local stakeholders and relevant International Financial Institutions will attend and be available for networking with the conference participants.
A hub of renewable energies – Burkina Faso is one of the least electrified countries globally, currently at 19% overall, with 60% of the urban and only 3% of the rural population connected to electricity. In a country where 19 million inhabitants have no access to electricity, having a reliable, cheap and efficient energy supply is crucial. The country is facing a rapid increase in domestic energy demand and other sectors including those of industry, transport and urban domestic demand.
The Government of Burkina Faso has set forth a bold national plan and has taken steps to introduce legislation to encourage private sector investment and to liberalize electricity generation and distribution. This is resulting in a huge potential for investment and technology cooperation for both the grid and off-grid needs. The country is currently opening its doors and welcoming project developers, investors and other market participants.
