ABOUT THE EVENT
Kenya has made significant progress in advancing access to affordable, and clean energy for all and has increased access to electricity from 30% in 2013 to over 75% in 2020, but still about 18 million people in the country still have no access to electricity. Renewable energy in Kenya currently accounts for 73% of the installed power generation capacity, and it has set an ambitious goal to achieve a target of 100% use of clean energy by 2030. So far, Kenya has 102 MW of Utility Solar installed.
According to a recent report, The East African nation will hit 100MW of rooftop commercial and industrial (C&I) solar generation capacity by the end of 2022. The government is currently working to achieve this by making public schools, hospitals and prisons, the biggest consumers of firewood in Kenya, transition to renewable energy. With a recent major government decision to reinstate the VAT exemptions will support the increased uptake of the solar products and significantly contribute towards the achievement of universal access to electricity in the country.
