Royal Power & Energy Limited (RPE), the leading Nigerian renewable energy and power infrastructure company, has emerged as a successful bidder under the World Bank-supported Utility Enabled Projects (UEP) programme implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency.

The project forms part of a major national initiative designed to accelerate electricity access through renewable energy deployment and strengthen collaboration between the public and private sectors in addressing Nigeria’s long-standing power deficit.

Through the programme, Royal Power & Energy will deploy renewable energy infrastructure using interconnected mini-grid systems that integrate with existing electricity distribution networks to provide reliable and sustainable electricity to underserved communities and businesses.

The initiative is supported by the World Bank and forms part of Nigeria’s broader effort to expand renewable energy adoption, improve electricity reliability, and reduce dependence on fossil-fuel-based self-generation.

Speaking on the development, ‘Wale Odugbesan, CEO of Royal Power & Energy described the project as a significant milestone in the company’s mission to transform Nigeria’s energy landscape.

“Winning this project reflects the growing role of the private sector in solving Nigeria’s energy challenge,” the CEO said.

“At Royal Power & Energy, we believe access to reliable electricity is fundamental to economic growth, business productivity, and community development. Through this initiative, we are proud to contribute to building a more resilient and sustainable power ecosystem for Nigeria.”

‘Wale added that the deployment of interconnected renewable energy systems represents a critical step in modernizing Nigeria’s power infrastructure and unlocking new opportunities for economic development.

“Nigeria’s energy future will be driven by innovative, decentralized power solutions that combine renewable energy with modern infrastructure. Our participation in this programme reinforces our commitment to delivering energy solutions that power industries, support communities, and drive sustainable growth.”

Commenting on the programme, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, emphasized the importance of private sector participation in expanding energy access across the country.

“The Utility Enabled Projects are a critical component of REA’s strategy to empower capable private sector developers to deliver sustainable electricity solutions at scale.” he said.

The interconnected mini-grid model adopted under the programme allows renewable energy systems to operate alongside existing distribution networks, improving reliability while expanding electricity access to areas where grid supply remains limited or unstable.

Industry experts note that hybrid and decentralized renewable energy systems are increasingly becoming a key pillar in Nigeria’s energy transition strategy, helping businesses reduce operating costs while improving energy security.

Royal Power & Energy stated that it will work closely with the Rural Electrification Agency, electricity distribution companies, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful deployment and long-term sustainability of the project.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to investing in innovative power solutions that accelerate clean energy adoption and strengthen Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure.
