The ideal candidate for this role is a finance professional with a solid background in credit underwriting and loan approvals, preferably within the renewable energy sector. The Senior Credit Analyst will be a key member of Odyssey’s Risk and Credit team and will play a central role in evaluating creditworthiness of SME/MSME customers seeking funding for renewable energy projects across Odyssey’s markets in Africa and India. The candidate will be responsible for assessing customer payment capacity and willingness to pay, to mitigate financial risks, while maintaining compliance with internal credit policies for solar loans, credit lines, and extension of credit limits. The Senior Credit Analyst will report to Director- Risk and work closely with other teams in the company.

Responsibilities
– Follow the business environment and risks in operating countries and markets;
– Develop understanding of target borrower’s business models and resulting risks;
– Evaluate and underwrite solar loans, as per established policy and process;
– Coordinate with internal business teams and external clients to prepare credit proposals;
– Present credit cases to decision makers with well-reasoned recommendations per established credit memoranda templates;
– Monitor and report case load metrics including adherence to policies, process, and turnaround times;
– Facilitate resolution of escalations;
– Provide feedback on effectiveness of policies, process, and mitigations to the Risk department
Skills/Qualifications
– Bachelor/Post-graduate degree or higher in finance, economics, or a related field
– Masters, CA or and/or CFA preferred
– 2+ years of experience in credit underwriting
– Ability to calculate, interpret, and sensitize financial ratios in banking analysis
– Proven ability to lead projects independently, including engagements with investors/financiers and legal/technical advisors
– Excellent communication and presentation skills
– Experience in SME lending
