Job Summary

The Director of Solar Water Farm Operations (DSSO) is responsible for the overall success of the SWF program in Kenya by developing and planning effective strategies to improve the overall operation of SWF including attracting and developing great Senior Site Managers (SSMs) and Site level leaders, ensuring strict compliance with the company’s operational standards, improving productivity, customer experience, sales and profitability at all SWF’s.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day business and administrative operations of SWFs ensuring that they meet all established KPIs, metrics and compliance requirements.
  • Lead the regional team (Senior Site Managers) to achieve operational and financial success.
  • Manage procurement functions and inventory levels in conjunction with the O&M team to organizational targets.
  • Supervise market validation team survey work and provide insights to leadership as part of new site development.
  • Enforce GivePower’s operational and standards (SOPs) across all SWFs.
  • Develop and execute on business plans and strategies that ensure achievement of company forecasts and goals.
  • Monitor, report on, and audit, as required, all cash reconciliation reports for water sales.
  • Drive continuous improvement of performance across all established KPIs and metrics.
  • Ensure that all reporting and control procedures in the area of operational compliance, cash compliance, assets, facilities, equipment, customer service, management control, production, hygiene, safety, maintenance and general administration are in place and are completed in accordance with company’s policy and procedures.
  • Develop and control operational budgets to promote profitability and ensure SWFs have all the resources required to meet their objectives within agreed financial parameters.
  • Meet / Exceed annual P&L objectives by demonstrating achievement of both top-line sales and cost management targets.
  • Ensure effective recruiting, onboarding, professional development, performance management, retention and bench strength for next-level positions through leadership, coaching, counseling and mentoring.
  • Ensure strong communication across teams and sites, and adherence to organizational best practices, policies and procedures.
  • Protect GivePower from any liability in the country and ensure legal compliance.

Qualification and Requirements

  • University degree level qualification.
  • Fluency in English and Swahili
  • Extensive experience in a multi-unit management role preferably in operations, quick service retail or similar environment with accountability for sales, profit, operations and people.
  • Expertise in financial analysis, budgeting and P&L management
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication with all levels of management
  • A proven history of personal integrity, high-energy, hard-working, self-motivated, positive attitude, customer-obsessed, generous yet firm with others
  • Strong ability to communicate with people effectively and confidently at all levels
  • Problem-solving skills that enable proactive identification and resolution of issues
  • Skills to develop positive relationships by understanding and addressing individual needs, build and work in strong teams, motivate, coach and collaborate with others
  • Ability to delegate effectively as needed while holding others accountable for outcomes
  • Strength to work under pressure from time-to-time by multi-tasking, prioritizing, making decisions or escalating for support when appropriate to meet stringent deadlines
  • Ability to work flexibly and travel around Kenya.
