We are looking for a Senior Power Engineer (Solar & BESS Systems) for a leading Telecommunication Company.
About the Role: The Senior Power Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the design and implementation of solar PV and BESS systems, ensuring compliance with Eskom standards and local regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Design and oversee installation of solar PV, BESS, and hybrid systems aligned with Eskom grid codes and local regulations.
- Conduct feasibility studies, load analyses, and system sizing for commercial/industrial projects.
- Manage end-to-end project execution, including site surveys, contractor coordination, and commissioning.
- Resolve technical challenges related to grid integration, transformer configurations, and protection systems.
- Ensure compliance with IEC, SANS, and Eskom standards for safety and performance.
- Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams (sales, procurement, clients).
- Prepare detailed technical documentation, including SLDs, protection studies, and Eskom compliance reports.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (Power Systems) or related field.
- Mandatory: Registered with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa).
- Preferred: Certification in solar energy (e.g., SAPVIA, PV Green Card) or BESS design.
Required Skills:
- 5+ years working with Eskom power systems, including grid compliance and grid-tied applications.
- 5+ years designing/installing solar PV and BESS systems (commercial/industrial scale).
- Proven track record in resolving technical conflicts (e.g., neutral configurations, transformer vector groups, ATS integration).
Preferred Skills:
- Proficiency in PVsyst, AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar design tools.
- In-depth knowledge of protection relays, inverters, transformers, and Eskom grid codes.
- Familiarity with South African renewable energy policies and licensing processes (NERS, COCT).
