25 Aug 2021

The Bukamba Water Supply Project which was funded by the Japanese Embassy and constructed by Aptech Africa Ltd was commissioned at Bukamba Boma Ground on May 18th, 2021 by the District Water Officer.

The project was completed with funding from the Japanese Embassy under the Assistance for Grass Roots Human Security Projects (GGP). Aptech Africa was contracted for the design, supply, installation and maintenance of this system. Despite COVID-19 striking Uganda, Aptech Africa worked tirelessly to ensure the project was delivered on time and pumping water to thousands of people in Bukamba long before the commissioning date.

The pumping system is solar powered with 15 KW PV system, and includes two compressed steel panel tanks with capacities of 48m3 at Bukamba and 18 m3 at Katikanyonyi. This project supplies water to Bukamba Rural Growth Centre and Katikanyonyi Village.

The project included a Community Based Management Plan to promote community ownership of the system. There is a water and sanitation board established by the Sub County Council to manage the water supply facilities. Water tariffs will be fixed by the board and the funds will be used for maintenance of the water facility in accordance with the Ministry Guidelines for Operation and Maintenance of Rural Water Supply Infrastructure.

With the combined efforts of Aptech Africa Ltd, The Embassy of Japan, and the Kayunga District Local Government, Bukamba community will now be enjoying access to water pumped through clean energy.
