To date, we are present in 6 African countries: Senegal, Madagascar, Mali, Ivory Coast, DRC and Nigeria – and have a total of around 600 internal employees + a network of around 1000 sales agents.

Assignment

The Baobab+ technical department is made up of 3 divisions: Product, Dev and Data. We are currently looking for someone to head the Data division.

The Data team is currently made up of a Senior Analytics Engineer (remote), and a Data Scientist (based in Madagascar). New recruitment could be planned for the end of 2024 to complete the team’s skills.

 

The collection, organization and use of data are strategic challenges for Baobab+. We have notably set up a “Modern Data Stack” (BigQuery & dbt), powering several data/decision support products, such as a suite of dashboards, alerts based on business criteria, reporting displaying business KPIs internally & externally, a reverse ETL to power our ERP, numerous ad hoc analyzes on operational subjects and finally, a credit risk prediction model.

 

Baobab+ collects rich and varied data on a daily basis which is the key to improving our model and becoming the West African leader in our sector. In 2024, we have many operational challenges to overcome, such as increasing the productivity of our distribution network, made up of sales agents in rural areas, and improving the customer journey to ensure that our customers complete their reimbursement. their products.

 

In particular, you will be required to:

 

Define and implement a value-creating data strategy for Baobab+, consistent with the objectives of the business functions (Operations, Logistics and Finance) and the subsidiaries established in our various African countries.
Disseminate and democratize the use of our data to support decision-making at all levels of the organization.
Using occasional analyses, propose avenues for improvement and solutions to key and structuring issues for Baobab+.
Manage and evolve our data stack according to our evolving needs.
Ensure the integrity, quality and availability of Baobab+ data through the orchestration of our pipelines and our automated testing strategies.
Manage the data department’s budget and allocate resources optimally to achieve the set objectives.

 

Profile

5+ years of experience in Data positions in dynamic and operational environments. Experience in a start-up / scale-up / consulting firm is a plus.
A first experience of team management, preferably in a multicultural context.
Scientific background: BAC+5 diploma in statistics, mathematics, computer science or a similar field.
Fluent French – Professional English

 

Technical skills

Demonstrated ability to translate business issues into data issues
Analytical & quantitative: ability to approach problems in a structured and rigorous manner
Experience with BI & visualization tools: PowerBI, Qlik, Tableau, etc…
Experience setting up data pipelines and testing strategies.
