JCM operates over 200MW of high-quality wind and solar assets and delivered the first utility-scale grid connected solar plus energy storage project in Sub-Saharan Africa, located in Malawi. JCM is developing and executing a pipeline of wind, solar and energy storage projects in Asia and Africa.

JCM is seeking to hire an Electrical Engineer, reporting to the Engineering Lead, who will become an integral part of the Engineering Team and assist in the development, design, and operation of renewable energy projects. This role requires an autonomous engineering professional with experience in the renewable energy industry. This position will be located remotely, with the requirement to work in the Central African time zone (CAT), preferably in Cape Town, South Africa.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 Assist with engineering aspects of JCM’s project development initiatives, including:
− conducting site assessments and feasibility studies to determine optimal locations for renewable energy projects,
− completing preliminary designs for renewable energy power plants (predominately solar PV plants) and the associated electrical infrastructure, which includes the selection of appropriate technologies and components, and
− conducting energy yield assessments and providing the technical related inputs to the financial team.
 Provide technical assistance with operational PV facilities:
− Monitor and analyse system performance to ensure optimal efficiency.
− Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues and upgrade system components, as needed.
− Assist in ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
 Analyse performance data of JCM’s operating plants and projects in the development pipeline.
 Support with the preparation and submission of technical reports for tender submissions, due diligence work and other ad-hoc engineering activities.
 Work effectively with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, operations and development.
 Coordinate with external parties, as required.

ADVANCING THE CLEAN ENERGY AGE

QUALIFICATIONS
 Bachelor’s degree in engineering (electrical/renewable energy) from an accredited college or university.
 2-3 years of related professional experience.
 Proven track record in producing quality technical documentation and keen to learn.
 Good command of the English language.
 Proficient in Microsoft programmes (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
 (Preferred) experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) and exposure to energy yield assessment
software (e.g. PVsyst).
