GreenMax Capital Group Limited (GreenMax) is a leading advisory and fund management firm focused exclusively on the clean energy sector in emerging markets. We have successfully executed projects across five continents, with experience in more than 80 countries globally since 1994. GreenMax supports project developers, renewable energy companies, investors, financial institutions, donor agencies and governments in the analysis, preparation and implementation of a broad range of clean energy investments, policies and regulations. As a fund manager, GreenMax currently co-manages the Clean Energy and Energy Inclusion for Africa Foundation (CEI Africa) and both sponsors and manages the Green-for-Access First Loss Facility (G4A) and the GreenShift Africa (GSA) trade finance facility.


As GreenMax is celebrating an incredible 30 years in business in 2024, we have experienced a tremendous growth spurt, increasing from only 10 employees at the end of 2021 to nearly 40 team members by mid-2024. Recognizing that our organizational structure and operating processes need to be upgraded to accommodate this growth, we are hiring a Chief of Staff and Partnerships to work closely with the company Management Committee and CEO to develop and implement new policies and procedures, deepen coordination and integration of our Fund Management (FM), Consulting and Transaction Advisory (TA) business units, expand our network of partnerships and support fundraising for the financing platforms we manage.

The Position

The Chief of Staff and Partnerships will be based in one of GreenMax’s current office locations in Africa – either Nairobi, Kenya, Lagos, Nigeria or Lome, Togo, with travel expected to GreenMax’s other locations in Africa and will work closely with the Management Committee and CEO towards achieving GreenMax’s key 3 year goals, which include continued, substantial growth in revenues, achieving full first closes for G4A and GSA, increasing the average size of our Consulting and Transaction Advisory business unit assignments and expanding our impact metrics.


The Chief of Staff and Partnerships will be responsible to

  • Work closely with the Management Committee and CEO to ensure better coordination of the three business units and greater integration of their activities
  • Identify areas to leverage repeat business across the three business units and coordinate implementation of these approaches.
  • Support the regional business development managers to generally help focus business development activities to improve coordination of the business units and take advantage of synergies to also result in increased impact
  • Support the Manager of Communications to improve internal communications and ensure consistent external communications and uniform outward messaging including preparation of updated GreenMax corporate communication materials (e.g., fact sheets, pitch decks, knowledge products etc.)
  • Leading the restructuring and implementation of the company’s bonus and incentive program with the objective of improving performance on existing assignments.
  • Support the Finance, Legal and Administration team in restructuring and implementation of new human resources and benefits policies coordinated across all GreenMax locations.
  • Coordinate the entire team’s professional networks to support the CEO and Management Committee to secure and manage partnerships with: i) other consulting firms with a primary focus on larger firms regularly engaged in implementing large-scale, multi-year projects with donor agencies in order to increase the size of Consulting business unit assignments and ii) other
    advisors/fund managers to bid together on niche TA and FM mandates
  • Support the CEO in maintaining relationships with key industry association partners such as the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), Africa Mini-Grid Developers Association (AMDA), Global Off-Grid Lighting Association (GOGLA), Africa Electric Mobility Alliance (AFEMA) etc.

Experience and Skills

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum 7 years of work experience and proven track record in business operations and management
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience in Sub-Saharan Africa, preferably with knowledge of and experience working in Kenya and Nigeria
  • Experience and understanding of the off-grid energy sector in Africa
  • Background in project or corporate finance preferred
  • Commitment to creating impact by improving livelihoods of low-income populations and improving gender equity through economic development
  • Strong team player, highly organized, take-charge attitude
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills required
  • French or Portuguese language proficiency is a plus but not a requirement.
  • Willingness and ability to work and live in either Kenya, Nigeria or Togo is required.
