Business Development Manager (SSA)

As a Sales Manager, you will be driving the sales performance for the Sub-Saharan Africa market, specifying and implementing effective sales and business-development initiatives in line with global strategy.

Reporting to the Sales Director, you will be led to meet ambitious targets and exceed customer expectations.

Job Description

  • Assess and establish a contact with potential buyers (Solar IPPs & EPCs).
  • Developing and building strong business relationships with clients at all departments whilst achieving sales goals/growth across allocated territories.
  • Manage sales pipeline, forecast sales and identify new business opportunities.
  • Work together with Sales team to turn prospective leads into long-term clients.
  • Establish relationships with local governments and other industry stakeholders
  • Scout new markets (approach end customer) and identify new business opportunities, propose and execute market entry modes.
  • Provide timely market intelligence (projects, trends, competitors’ activities, prices, new product updates) to support headquarters and regional Sales team.
  • Travel frequently to visit clients and attend exhibitions and conferences.
  • The role will involve prospect qualification, development and execution of targeted business development strategies to convert into sales, outreach to leads, sales presentations, and meeting sales goals.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with new leads and existing clients with EPC & developers.
  • Continuously scan market landscape to capture information regarding opportunities and threats.
  • Build and implement sales strategies appropriate for the assigned business segments.
  • Support Key Account team for contract negotiations with target accounts.
  • May occasionally be involved in strategic growth opportunities that the company is pursuing.


  • Experience in direct sales and sales management, at least 3-5 years of working experience in the photovoltaic industry is preferred.
  • Previous demonstrable B2B sales experience in Renewable Energy Industry or related field.
  • A clear grasp of contract negotiations, risk management, and commercial and legal terms.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiating skills, a customer-focused mindset, and a professional, “can-do” attitude.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or above, Engineer qualification.
  • Fluency in English language both oral and written, Afrikaans is preferred.
