DESCRIPTION:Uganda and the rest of Africa share great challenges concerning reliable and affordable supply of sustainable (green) energy. DESCRIPTION:RENPOWER Africa Storage will highlight the evolution and ambitions taken to scale-up energy storage projects in the African continent. In Sub-Sahara Africa\, Malawi’s first utility-scale grid-connected 20MW Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Project has entered commercial operations. \nThrough South Africa’s REIPPPP model\, Eskom has recently awarded contracts to two successful bidders for the provision of battery storage solutions in terms of its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project. The 1\,440MWh distributed BESS combined with 60MW Solar PV represents a giant leap forward for large-scale deployment in support of South Africa’s renewable energy strategy and addresses local overall system challenges.
