SUMMARY:Managing Investment risk for Commercial & Industrial projects in Sub-Saharan Africa
DESCRIPTION:The market of the Commercial & Industrial segment has started maturing in Sub-Saharan Africa in the last few years. The dominant business model up till now is a direct purchase\, however\, some companies are also offering financing options including PPA and rental & leasing. \nRenewable energy projects\, in general\, require substantial capital investments and depend on predictable\, long-term cash flows in order to provide investment returns that can attract that capital\, operators and investors should understand the risks and how to mitigate them. \nIn this webinar\, Jinko Solar together with AREF & Huawei\, will address the risks in renewable energy projects and to which party can they be assigned; how risks can be managed\, and at what cost; and which risks can be eliminated in order to make solar PV C&I investments viable in the long run. This session will look at: \n• Overview of the C& I market in Sub-Saharan Africa. \n• Introducing latest Jinko’s innovation and potential impact on C& I in projects SSA. \n• Consideration for component reliability in solar PV plants. \n• How to manage long term project risks to ensure minimal deviation from expected returns. \n• Key considerations for investing in solar PV projects in Africa. \n• Hindrances to achieving short payback periods in solar PV projects. \n• Fuse Free Design\, Low maintenance product and Low Failure higher availability \n• IV Curve & Fusion solar monitoring & AFCI for mitigating fire risk to ensure safety of the PV plant. \nPanel: \n\nTitus Koech\, Technical Services Engineer | Middle East & Africa\nRizwan Razaq\, CTO\, Huawei Solar | Middle East & Africa\n\nRead more and register

SUMMARY:Webinar: Optimize your bifacial PV tracker project to deliver extra energy gains
DESCRIPTION:More and more gigawatts of bifacial PV projects are being installed across the world to reduce the LCOE as solar markets become more competitive. The site layout and tracker configuration can have a great effect in helping deliver the extra energy gains promised by bifacial technology\, but they are not the only factors. This webinar looks at how projects need to be planned\, designed\, built\, and maintained to optimize for bifacial gain: \nRecognize the main attributes of bifacial PV projects that you need to consider in your design: length of the trackers\, height of the modules\, project location\, and shadowing.\nUnderstand the effect on bifacial performance of the two most common tracker configurations on the market\, one-in-portrait (1P) and two-in-portrait (2P). Which one provides bigger bifacial gains for your PV project? \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Webinar - Off-Grid Refrigeration and Cold Chain: Affordability\, Business Models and Technology
DESCRIPTION:For the 840 million people living without access to electricity\, access to cooling is crucial to reducing food loss and improving people’s livelihoods and quality of life. For refrigerators\, improving efficiency is one important factor in increasing access to refrigeration. However\, it is also crucial to understand the costs of all of the system components and steps along the off-grid refrigerator value chain. This will help prioritise the best set of interventions to reduce their overall cost and improve affordability. Meanwhile\, off-grid cold storage solutions could be key to including first mile producers in cold chains for developing communities but have untested technologies and business models. These technologies provide a lens through which we can explore challenges and opportunities in delivering cooling services in off and weak-grid contexts. \nTo that end\, this webinar will share key learnings from an Efficiency for Access commissioned study ‘Use Cases and Cost Breakdown of Off-Grid Refrigeration Systems’ (https://storage.googleapis.com/e4a-website-assets/Use-Cases-and-Cost-Breakdown-of-Off-Grid-Refrigeration-Systems-Report.pdf). This study breaks down the costs of refrigeration systems to identify the various levers that influence the affordability of these technologies. The webinar will also feature presentations from two recent grantees of the Efficiency for Access Research and Development Fund (https://efficiencyforaccess.org/grants) and share learnings from the Global LEAP Awards Off-Grid Cold Chain Challenge (https://globalleapawards.org/ogccc). \nOutline agenda \nEfficiency for Access Research and Development Fund\nIntroduction to the R&D Fund (5 mins)\nR&D grantee spotlight: Fosera (10mins)\nR&D grantee spotlight: Devidayal Solar Solutions (10 mins)\nQ&A (5 mins) \nOff-Grid Cold Chain Challenge (OGCCC)\nSummary of learnings from the OGCCC (15 mins)\nQ&A (15 mins) \nResearch on Use and Cost of Off-Grid Refrigerators (SERC)\nIntroduction and context (5 mins)\nStudy findings (15 mins)\nQ&A (10 mins) \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Webinar: Energy storage market opportunities and potential in Africa
DESCRIPTION:Rewables are growing at a fast pace in Africa\, meaning much more variable renewable capacity at record low cost will enter the grid over the next few years. And as variable renewable energy (VRE) increases\, so too does the necessity to include dispatchability\, frequency regulation and balancing services into the system. In this webinar\, we analyze how battery energy storage systems can enable higher VRE penetration. \nJoin us in this session to know more about: \n\nUnderstand the key take-aways across the main markets in the Africa; update on tenders\, project developments and the regulatory framework.\nConsider the potential opportunities for energy storage through the different segments of generation\, transmission & distribution\, mining and captive segments.\nListen to real case studies on grid-tied and off-grid projects with ESS systems to understand storage’s capabilities\, functionalities and flexibility.\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:Market Dialogue: Greening humanitarian response through recovery\, repair\, and recycling of solar products in camps
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to attend a webinar discussing innovative solutions to solar e-waste management in displacement settings. \nAn innovation project led by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) to pilot repair and recycling services in refugee\ncamps in Kenya and Uganda is looking for partners in the private sector: solar distributors\, manufacturers and suppliers; and recycling or waste management companies to become part of the project. \nExpert presentations from: \n\nIwona Bisaga\, Chatham House\nJamie Cross\, University of Edinburgh\nFederico Madalini\, Sofies\n\nThe project\nEnergy services in refugee camps are increasingly being provided by off-grid solar products. However\, at some point\, like all things\, these products break down or come to their end-of-life. At this point they either need to be repaired or disposed of.  Unfortunately\, the most common disposal methods in Eastern Africa: burial\, burning\, latrine disposal and open landfill\, are also the most damaging for the health of communities and the local environment.\nThis project will establish and extend waste management processes that will alleviate the stresses being placed on camp residents and their environment (by reducing and recycling waste). In addition the project activities will prolong energy access\, create jobs\, support livelihoods and provide business opportunities. \nWhat is a Market Dialogue?\nThe purpose of this Market Dialogue is to bring together a diverse mix of stakeholders to discuss how the challenges of solar e-waste management in refugee camps might be met. Rather than constrain innovation to pre-set specifications\, IOM’s innovative procurement approach\, of which this webinar is a central component\, looks to accelerate the innovation process itself and at the same time provide a market opportunity to implement those innovations. \nRegister here
