SUMMARY:Webinar: Energy storage market opportunities and potential in Africa
DESCRIPTION:Rewables are growing at a fast pace in Africa\, meaning much more variable renewable capacity at record low cost will enter the grid over the next few years. And as variable renewable energy (VRE) increases\, so too does the necessity to include dispatchability\, frequency regulation and balancing services into the system. In this webinar\, we analyze how battery energy storage systems can enable higher VRE penetration. \nJoin us in this session to know more about: \n\nUnderstand the key take-aways across the main markets in the Africa; update on tenders\, project developments and the regulatory framework.\nConsider the potential opportunities for energy storage through the different segments of generation\, transmission & distribution\, mining and captive segments.\nListen to real case studies on grid-tied and off-grid projects with ESS systems to understand storage’s capabilities\, functionalities and flexibility.\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:Market Dialogue: Greening humanitarian response through recovery\, repair\, and recycling of solar products in camps
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to attend a webinar discussing innovative solutions to solar e-waste management in displacement settings. \nAn innovation project led by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) to pilot repair and recycling services in refugee\ncamps in Kenya and Uganda is looking for partners in the private sector: solar distributors\, manufacturers and suppliers; and recycling or waste management companies to become part of the project. \nExpert presentations from: \n\nIwona Bisaga\, Chatham House\nJamie Cross\, University of Edinburgh\nFederico Madalini\, Sofies\n\nThe project\nEnergy services in refugee camps are increasingly being provided by off-grid solar products. However\, at some point\, like all things\, these products break down or come to their end-of-life. At this point they either need to be repaired or disposed of.  Unfortunately\, the most common disposal methods in Eastern Africa: burial\, burning\, latrine disposal and open landfill\, are also the most damaging for the health of communities and the local environment.\nThis project will establish and extend waste management processes that will alleviate the stresses being placed on camp residents and their environment (by reducing and recycling waste). In addition the project activities will prolong energy access\, create jobs\, support livelihoods and provide business opportunities. \nWhat is a Market Dialogue?\nThe purpose of this Market Dialogue is to bring together a diverse mix of stakeholders to discuss how the challenges of solar e-waste management in refugee camps might be met. Rather than constrain innovation to pre-set specifications\, IOM’s innovative procurement approach\, of which this webinar is a central component\, looks to accelerate the innovation process itself and at the same time provide a market opportunity to implement those innovations. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Webinar - Solar E-waste Management Innovations in Sub-Saharan Africa
DESCRIPTION:EEP Africa is pleased to partner with CLASP to offer a deep dive into the solar e-waste management landscape in Africa. This event will share information from EEP Africa’s recent call and introduce projects funded through the Global LEAP Awards Solar E-Waste Challenge\, a program to support innovations in off-grid solar e-waste management. \nThe global market for off-grid solar technologies is growing rapidly. Investments in e-waste management are needed now to ensure that the sector grows sustainably and remains a leader in environmental responsibility. Off-grid industry leaders are exploring e-waste management solutions\, such as product repair initiatives and preventative maintenance\, as well as the role of waste reduction in the initial product design stage. \nThe Solar E-Waste Challenge has awarded funds to 12 companies in sub-Saharan Africa for the research and development of sustainable e-waste management solutions in the areas of: take back\, collection and incentives; recycling and product design for recyclability; battery technology and second life initiatives and product design for life extension; product repair\, refurbishment and repurposing. \nParticipants can expect to learn about initiatives that: \n\nStreamline and integrate take-back & collection into company business models\nFacilitate product refurbishment\, reuse\, or repurposing\nCreate partnerships with the informal sector\nEnhance consumer awareness around proper e-waste disposal\nDevelop second-life battery initiatives\nExtend product and/or component lifespan; and\nEnhance product reparability and recyclability\n\nWebinar speakers include specialists from EEP Africa\, CLASP and GOGLA. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Webinar - Bankability considerations for large scale PV projects in a stressed global environment
DESCRIPTION:With the rise of large scale solar projects in the MENA region and the increase of requirements\, there is a bigger need from the suppliers to provide solid guaranty. The financial bankability is directly linked with the quality of the product however we don’t have enough track records in the region but we have some interesting case studies. For example in Africa\, there is a lot of sub-quality products that are showing their weakness after less than 1 decade of use. \nFinally\, a lot of projects are on hold given the sanitary situation and Chinese manufacturers drastically slowed down their production with some possible negative impact on the company’s health. What would be the consequences on the market and how bankability could still be a good indicator in this context. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Renpower Morocco
DESCRIPTION:Euroconvention Global is pleased to announce its next event: RENPOWER MOROCCO – The 2nd Renewable Energy\, Power Infrastructure & Energy Efficiency Investors Conference \nDate: 21 April 2020\nCity: Rabat\, Morocco \nAttending: Key stakeholders including representatives from the government\, International Finance Institutions (IFIs)\, policy makers\, international and local developers\, EPC contractors\, independent power producers\, engineering\, legal and advisory services\, manufacturers\, banking and private equity entities. \nBackground: Morocco has already taken important steps to develop a modern energy market\, setting clear renewable energy targets\, establishing dedicated institutions to implement the national programs\, further opening and reforming the power sector and facilitating the necessary regulatory environment and access to finance. \nThe government\, along with the relevant stakeholders\, is working on increasing its RES capacity\, aiming at 42% of its energy mix through renewables at the end of this year and 52 % by 2030. Several solar energy and wind power projects are in the pipeline or at a planning stage\, along with a few hydroelectric energy plants. Meeting the growing internal energy demand and reducing the country’s external energy dependence is still a key objective. Furthermore\, energy efficiency projects in transport\, constructions\, public administration and industry are expected to be initiated and developed. \nAs the electrical power industry in Morocco is facing challenges involved with sustained growth of demand\, added to environmental protection requirements\, smart grid technology holds a great promise for a cleaner and more efficient power. On the other hand\, off-grid solutions and advanced storage systems\, along with management service and expertise are important keys for the success of the electrification in the country vast remote and rural areas. \nThe potential of the RES development in the next decade\, combined with an investors-friendly environment\, will keep providing numerous business opportunities for investors\, developers\, technology providers and consultants in the sector. \nMore info here
