SUMMARY:SOLAR ETHIOPIA 2022
DESCRIPTION:The overwhelming response from the Solar Industry has encouraged Expogroup to launch “SOLAR AFRICA” and after successful editions in Kenya and Tanzania Solar Africa is all set to step in the Ethiopian Market. \nSolar Africa in Ethiopia will be held concurrently with Power &Energy Africa from 07 – 09 July 2022 . \nThe region offers tremendous opportunities to suppliers worldwide\, having among the strongest solar resources in the world. In particular\, the region offers excellent potential for concentrated solar power (CSP) and concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) systems. \nSolar photovoltaics are being promoted to replace fuel-based lighting and off-grid electrical needs. Ethiopia is thought to have about 5 MW of off-grid solar. Almost all current solar power is used for telecommunications. Other uses include village well pumps\, health care and school lighting. A current government initiative plans to bring solar power to 150\,000 households. The first phase included 1 MW of panels. The first large installation of solar was a village grid of 10 kW in 1985\, expanded to 30 kW in 1989. A solar panel assembly plant opened in Addis Ababa in early 2013 capable of making 20 MW of panel per year. \nMany African countries are currently exploring the use of solar and other renewable energy\, with Ethiopia being a strong market for Solar industry and is currently focusing on developing the same. The Government is also being very supportive by allowing solar products to enter the country duty free. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:RENPOWER SOUTHERN AFRICA – South Africa\, Namibia and Botswana
DESCRIPTION:RENPOWER SOUTHERN AFRICA will highlight the evolution and ambitions taken by South Africa\, Namibia\, and Botswana to lead the just-energy transition as clean energy resources become predominant in the energy landscape. \nFor many years coal has been the main energy source in South Africa accounting for 80% of the country’s energy mix. However\, to contribute to the energy transition\, South Africa adopted the Integrated Resource Plan to set the ambitious target of 20 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 which will benefit the nation not only by decarbonizing its economy but also addressing major issues of power shortage which are counterproductive for the industry and country’s development. \nBreaking down the numbers\, South Africa plans to allocate at least 6 GW of large scale solar by 2030\, planning for 1 gigawatt of solar per year allowing for solar to supply about 10% to its energy mix. With a bright future\, wind power will represent the major bulk of 16 GW of generation capacity by the end of the decade. As a solution for the critical need of extra generation capacity\, the government raised the licensing threshold for embedded generation projects from 1 MW to 100 MW\, opening the doors for IPPs to compete in the market.Tapping into the nation’s renewable power potential will be crucial to create greater energy security\, reduce costs\, and generate local socioeconomic benefits for South Africa. \nNeighboring Namibia and Botswana still rely on energy imports from South Africa\, with Botswana importing over 800 MW of electricity in 2020 and about 40% of Namibia’s power comes from South Africa. To create a solution\, Botswana adopted the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) to achieve 15% contribution of renewable energy by 2030 from the current 2%. In Namibia\, one of the main goals of the Namibia Harambee Prosperity Plan II 2021 – 2025 (HPPII) is to increase local electricity generation capacity from 624 MW in 2020 to 879 MW by 2025. \nThe desire and need to move away from the traditional energy mix coupled with dependency on electricity imports\, peak power challenges\, as well as securing power supply and projected electricity demand\, have led Namibia and Botswana to evolve their renewable energy goals by tapping into their own resources setting bold ambitions to lead the decarbonization and become renewable energy traders in the region. \nFor more information regarding the detailed agenda and register\, please email administration@euroconventionglobal.com \n20+ Speakers\, panel sessions\, VIP exclusive networking with local and regional leaders\, presentations with latest content…and more! \nJoin us and be a part of the discussion! \nRead more

SUMMARY:The benefits of solar thermal technology for industrial and residential use in Africa
DESCRIPTION:It is estimated that 49% of the entire energy consumption globally is used for producing heat. But 75% of this heat is produced through burning fossil fuels. \nSolar energy\, when harvested through solar thermal technology (as opposed to the more famous solar photovoltaic)\, offers a compelling solution to address this need for heat while at the same time significantly reduce gas emissions. \nSolar thermal technologies are not always well known. Very often people think this technology is limited to large CSP plants (concentrated solar power) in north and south Africa. But industrial companies as well as individuals can also greatly benefit from solar thermal technologies. \nIn this webinar we will: \n\nDiscover how individual house can greatly save on their electricity bills by replacing electric water heaters with solar water heaters\nHear about the reasons why Iberafrica in Kenya decided to switch to solar thermal technologies and how it helps the company improve its operations and reduce OPEX\nUnderstand the motivation of an international investor to build a solar thermal technology manufacturing plant in Botswana\nExplain to listeners how they can benefit from solar thermal technologies\, either directly at their homes or for their industrial activities\n\nDuring this webinar you will get great insights from the following panelists: \n\nMichelle Cross – Head of International Business Development at Planet SOAR\nPauline Dusabemariya – Coordinator at Munyax Eco\nTroy Barrie – CTO at Ariya Finergy\nJeff Kimanthi – technical office manager at Iberafrica\n\nApply here
