SUMMARY:2nd Annual Africa Solar Energy Forum
DESCRIPTION:Solar Energy is the energy of the present and of the future and of course\, the way to go. This has been globally ascertained. Manufacturing is at its peak and the advanced countries are taking advantage of the trend. Dependence on fossil fuel for energy generation is already becoming something of the past as there are already electric cars\, solar street lights\, solar homes\, micro and mini grids that run entirely on solar energy. \nThe conference will allow native government officials\, technicians\, engineers\, solar energy experts and entrepreneurs and business developers to interact and exchange information with representatives from leading international solar companies and foreign government agencies. This opportunity will without doubt stimulate and strengthen direct and indirect cooperation within the international technical and commercial communities\, which is a prerequisite for much needed support of the development of sustainable solar energy industries in Africa. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Module wind load resistance: Standards vs. reality
DESCRIPTION:Comprehensive testing at every stage has been vital to the solar industry’s impressive growth to date – investors\, insurers\, and other project stakeholders all need some assurance that this still young technology can live up to expectations\, particularly when those expectations are centered around the entire system being installed outdoors and left to the elements for a lifetime of 20 years or more. \nWhen it comes to trackers\, proving reliable wind resistance is among the most vital of these tests. However\, a closer look at common wind loading standards reveals that they do not accurately represent the way the wind loads the module. In this pv magazine Webinar\, we’ll look at this in detail\, as well as how bifacial and large format modules impact the maximum wind speed that can be supported by the modules and tracker system. \nWe’ll be joined by Yarrow Fewless\, CPP Wind Engineering\, who will demonstrate how the wind pressure PV systems are under in the field often does not match with what they’re tested against\, leaving the door open for costly failures after installation. \nFollowing on from Yarrow; GameChange Solar’s Scott Van Pelt will take us through their module testing procedure that more accurately simulate the distribution of stress caused by wind in the field\, and how findings gained from these have influenced the design of the company’s latest tracker system. \nFinally\, Daniel Chang of RETC will share his expertise on different combinations of module and racking system\, and how the latest round of module technology upgrades – in particular bifacial and the switch to larger formats – affect how the mechanical rating of the system and therefor the maximum wind speed it can support. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:How to Spot a Faulty Solar Performance Model
DESCRIPTION:Many solar developers assume that all solar performance models are created equal. \nHowever\, many different solar performance models are available\, and using the wrong one can damage your chances at closing a project\, or expose you to liability you may not realize. \nGetting the model right matters for solar developers for a number of reasons\, including the risk of over-promising if a model fails to show important design faults that will hamper performance. What’s more\, some developers are not able to tune their numbers to win the deal\, while others aren’t getting enough credit for the good work they are already doing. \nThis pv magazine Webinar explains how solar projects can become constrained\, and developers outright burned\, by using the wrong solar performance model when generating sales proposals. We’ll go in depth into the pros and cons of different performance modeling approaches\, identify where each one has blind spots\, and show how to spot modeling-related shortcuts in a competitor’s bid. \nPv magazine Webinar content:\n• Overview of different modeling approaches\n• Pros & cons of each approach\n• How industry technology trends are intersecting the latest developments in performance models\n• Key factors driving temperature loss\, and how to communicate that effectively\n• How different PV modules perform based on their cell type and other physics\n• Why some types of inverter clipping losses are upwards of 10 times more critical than others\n• Q&A \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Shade modelling for utility-scale PV plants: Why it matters and what you should do about it
DESCRIPTION:The utility-scale PV market is poised for exponential growth and yet the industry still has many fundamental opportunities to improve on standards and best practice. Tracker shade loss has been one of those topics that deserve more attention\, but has been typically handled by derate factors rather than trying to accurately forecast the loss over the life of the system. This has led to a majority of projects in the industry that have been shown to underperform against plant yield expectations and yet the low hanging fruit for more accurate financial modeling of plants is not being explored. \nThe industry needs to take a closer look at shade modeling as project portfolios are primed to grow in project numbers and investors and owners need scalable ways to reduce risk and rely on the forecasted return on investment. \nJoin Nextracker’s subject matter experts\, Aron Dobos and Neelesh Umachandran\, and Rounak Kharait\, director of solar energy assessments at DNV\, for a webinar about why shade modelling matters and giving recommendations on what the solar industry should do about it. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Solar for Healthcare
DESCRIPTION:14 months ago\, many spotlights were turned towards the African healthcare sector and its terrible lack of electrification. Not being able to store and administer the COVID vaccine in Africa could deter all other global efforts in fighting the pandemic. Several programs were then launched to solve the issue of electrification at healthcare facilities and many experts had their opinion about what was the right way forward. \nFast-forward 14 months later\, there are significantly less discussions and articles about electrifying the African healthcare infrastructure. But the problem persists and only a few healthcare facilities got access to electricity. Several emergency programs have disappeared as fast as they were announced and there still is an amazing work to be done to provide Africa with the most basic access to electricity and healthcare. But there are solutions\, efficient\, readily available and totally affordable! This webinar intends to highlight several initiatives and solutions which can significantly improve the access to electricity for the healthcare sector in Africa and deserve a lot more attention \nIn this webinar we will: \n\ndiscuss how it could actually take only $100M to electrify half of Africa’s healthcare facilities to address the 2 major pain points of rural doctors\npresent a tool that helps public officials and solar professionals precisely size the required solar installation for any kind of healthcare facility depending on the medical equipment available and used\npresent the new approach of international aid agencies to speed up healthcare electrification by adapting to and aligning with the needs of private solar companies across the continent\n\nDuring this webinar you will get great insights from the following panelists: \n\nPeter Lilienthal\, creator of HOMER and Global Microgrid Lead at UL\nAnshul Gaur\, Director of Marketing & Grants at d.light\nGil Karie\, Director of Innovation at Ignite Power\nAbudullah Al Kulaib\, Regional Specialist at UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Africa\n\nThis event will be of particular interest to: \n\nGovernment officials in charge of healthcare\nHealth practicians\nAid agencies\nAfrican solar installers and developers\n\nRegister here

SUMMARY:From niche to mainstream: the keys to making BIPV happen today
DESCRIPTION:Building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) are a symbiosis between clean energy generation and design that could turn future buildings into generation hubs\, and creating new revenue streams\, while helping cover our net-zero emissions targets. The ever-improving design and aesthetic diversity of solar panels means our need for solar to play a bigger part of our build environment is now a reality. Buildings that generate their own energy via BIPV have been on the cusp for years\, but mainstream success is here thanks to new innovations\, improved aesthetics\, and continued incremental cost decreases. This pv magazine Webinar will investigate how BIPV companies and stakeholders such as architects\, the construction sector\, smart city initiatives and regulations\, and more\, can work together\, to create generating assets from large buildings in urban environments and commercial applications\, to residential environments. \nJinko Solar will also present its new Curtain Wall series\, an offering set for launch in the Middle-East and North Africa (MENA) region\, with customized designs\, colors\, styles\, and power outputs (245W-676W). \nJoin this pv magazine Webinar to hear from leading BIPV developers\, users and architectural technology design experts in a discussion about the building facades of the future that are happening today. \nPv magazine Webinar content: \n• BIPV Developments & Applications in Green Buildings \n• BIPV Architectural Design and Material Focus \n• BIPV Market Outlook \n• BIPV market opportunities in MENA\, Sub-Saharan Africa and Europe \n. • Jinko Solar’s Curtain Wall Series \n• Q&A \nRegister here
