SUMMARY:Tunisia welcomes the 13th edition of Africa PPP virtually
DESCRIPTION:Tunisia is the host country of the 13th Africa Public Private Partnership Virtual Conference that will take place on 1-2 December 2021 under the virtual format. This edition will be bilingual in English and French\, and this year it includes an additional training-day on the 3rd of December. The Tunisian Government welcomes the virtual event in 2021 and the live edition in 2022 as lead project the North African region. The event will take a real time snapshot of the current PPP environment in Africa\, focusing on viable avenues to accelerate PPP prioritisation\, highlighting case studies in Tunisia\, Egypt\, Morocco\, and Algeria spread across solar & wind renewable energy\, maritime and industrial ports. \nAfrica PPP 2021 will meet up with the community in December at a key stage of PPP scaling up in the region\, with PPP investment opportunities increasing rapidly\, allowing Governments to create fiscal space for other national commitments. This year’s theme will focus on “Collaborating on public\, physical\, and technological infrastructure projects to achieve sustainable futures and intelligent infrastructure”. \nAfrica Public Private Partnership is a community of owners and industry\, public and private sector who connect through our conference. Event partners showcase services\, or products through the conference\, sponsorship and event exhibition.  Considering the limitations caused by current covid restrictions\, the event is now happening virtually. The online engagement helps keeping our community of public and private sector professionals informed about projects\, partners and industry developments. \nThe 2021 programme highlights so far include: \n\nTunisia Focus Session on all Tunisia Upcoming Projects delivered by senior representative and projects teams\nHighly focussed sessions on renewable energy\, airports\, rail\, freight\, transit\, mobility\, water\, port\, maritima and waterways\, technology enabled remote and physical healthcare for Egypt\, Algeria\, Morocco\, and Tunisia\nExecutive CEO and CFO Airport Panel\nKey climate adaption for infrastructure discussions\, and infrastructure projects for achieving sustainable futures and intelligent infrastructure\nUnderstanding public private partnerships and state of the market post covid – Capturing the opportunity\n\nA look back at the Africa PPP 2020 Summary \nThe Pan Africa event went online first time in December 2020\, allowing interesting sessions of discussion on PPPs in Morocco. The event had the special support of the Government of Morocco\, with the Ministry of Economy and Finance\, and the Ministry of Equipment\, Transport\, Logistics and Water of Morocco. \nThe 12th edition of Africa PPP gathered 16 PPP projects and attendees from 34 countries. These participants were from the Public Sector (35%)\, Investors (33%)\, Advisors & Developers (23%)\, Constructors (8%) and from PPP Units (3%). \nAfrica PPP 2020 highlighted there is need for governments\, private sector and DFIs to agree on the regulatory best practices to address the current cumbersome PPP regulatory frameworks that take too long and increase costs. The conference also noted the need for regulatory acceleration which could be achieved through the establishment of dedicated institutions to streamline the process and address hurdles quicker. \nThe focus on bulk water PPPs will be key as they are easier to structure than distribution. Non-revenue water issues need to be addressed and tariffs must reflect costs in the long term to de-risk projects and ensure viability and sustainability. The latest will be addressed at Africa PPP 2021. \nThe Africa PPP 2021 Conference offers quality business connections for our event partners to keep the industry updated on services and products through the online opportunities. Designed to give maximum exposure and visibility for each participating partner\, before\, during and after the event. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Africa Green Hydrogen Forum
DESCRIPTION:Africa has seen vast amounts of progress in green hydrogen developments across the region with countries such as South Africa\, Niger\, Mali and Namibia redirecting its focus on the utilisation of renewable energies through green hydrogen.. Technological and economic advances and explicit political and corporate support over the last two years have brought green hydrogen to the forefront of the energy and climate change agendas of many countries. Thus\, green hydrogen is poised to play a crucial role in realising net zero-emissions energy systems envisioned by 2050 by these nations. Green hydrogen is rapidly becoming the most suitable resource to expand energy access and drive socioeconomic growth in Africa\, while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. \nSupplying hydrogen to industrial users is now a major business around the world. Demand for hydrogen\, which has grown more than threefold since 1975\, continues to rise – almost entirely supplied from fossil fuels\, with 6% of global natural gas and 2% of global coal going to hydrogen production. \nWith revenues for green hydrogen projected to exceed $200 billion by 2027\, diverse opportunities will open up not only for renewable projects for its production\, but also to use it as a long-term energy storage technology\, to replace fossil fuels for mobility\, and to become a major part of manufacturing and process industries. The transition to green hydrogen could provide $11 trillion of infrastructure investment opportunities over the next 30 years making a global business focus. The number of countries with polices that directly support investment in hydrogen technologies is increasing\, along with the number of sectors they target. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:PAYGo Solar Accounting Brief: Shedding light on PAYGo accounting practices
DESCRIPTION:Accounting policies play a crucial but often overlooked role in the management of any company. As a relatively new sector operating primarily in emerging markets\, the PAYGo solar sector confronts this regularly. PAYGo solar companies have a challenge deciding which accounting policies they can or should use to manage their businesses and present them to the outside world. Investors in turn may find it difficult to understand what accounting standards a PAYGo company is using and how this affects its financial position or compares to its competitors. \nThe proliferation of accounting practices across PAYGo firms emerged as an important topic during the PAYGo PERFORM initiative–the different practices used could produce substantial impacts on the calculation of the PERFORM KPIs\, and in turn make a comparison of the KPIs across companies more difficult. To help address this\, IFC Lighting Global and GOGLA commissioned MFR to produce a review of accounting practices in the PAYGo sector\, with the goal of increasing awareness and transparency of the different accounting treatments used in PAYGo firms and their impact on financial reporting. \nJoin us on November 16 at 3:00 pm CET where GOGLA and IFC Lighting Global will officially launch this Accounting Brief. The webinar will introduce the participants to the brief\, share an overview of the accounting policies used by PAYGo solar companies\, and review the impacts this can have on financial reporting and the PERFORM KPIs\, using data collected from a group of PAYGo companies that devoted valuable time to share their practices. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Renpower Africa Storage 2021
DESCRIPTION:Towards a greener economy enabled by Renewables + Storage\nTo achieve the goal of “carbon neutrality” and push the green agenda for governments and industries\, Energy Storage is an important foundation and key technology for building a new energy system with renewables as the main resource. According to BloombergNEF\, energy storage projects that provide transmission and distribution services will amount to a $277 billion market between 2020 and 2050. \nRenewables + Storage: it is expected that the Battery-Energy Storage Technologies (BEST) will further spur the market for renewable energy as grid-connected energy storage will be deployed. In Senegal\, the region’s first and large utility-scale application of battery storage is slated to be integrated to a wind farm to deploy around 60 MW hours of battery storage capacity. In the same region\, the World Bank Group has provided $465 Million to expand energy access and renewable energy integration in West Africa\, including battery-energy storage technologies. \nSouth Africa aims for 20 percent of renewable energy in its mix by 2030\, making officials include technical standards for integrating battery energy storage in the electrical grid and tendering for more than 1GWh of energy storage to make renewable energy projects dispatchable. \nIn addition\, Battery-Energy Storage Technologies (BEST) can mitigate grid congestion and defer the need for new power lines in off-grid sites. \nAs an effective solution for long-term energy storage\, Green Hydrogen will become more acute as renewables become the primary source of power. Hydrogen storage is a key enabling technology in applications including stationary power\, portable power\, and transportation. In this edition of Renpower Storage Africa\, the potential of Green Hydrogen in the region will also be addressed as leading nations like Namibia\, South Africa and Morocco are preparing to become green hydrogen hubs in the continent. \nJOIN US TO DISCUSS\n\nDeployment of energy storage in Africa – the missing link in the energy transition\nIncreasing renewable energy penetration through energy storage innovative solutions\nRenewable hydrogen – untapping the potential in Africa\nEnergy access – decarbonizing non-interconnected areas with centralized solutions and renewable mini-grids with storage\nBankability and financing structures available for energy storage project success\n\nAll these questions\, challenges and further prospects will be discussed in-depth during presentations and moderated panel discussions. SUMMARY:The Invisible Giant supporting your solar system
DESCRIPTION:Mounting structures include all existing options to fix solar equipment (roof-mount\, fixed ground-mount and tracker). \nThey are an essential yet often underestimated part of solar project. These structures often represent only 3-4% of total project cost\, yet a big fraction of the performance of the solar system is determined by the quality and longevity of the mounting structure. \nIt is therefore crucial to fully understand the differences between mounting structure options and providers\, in order to carefully select the most appropriate solution for a specific project. \nThis showcase will provide an overview of the different mounting structures for different kinds of projects\, delving into material types\, performance and warranties. It will also go deeply into tracker technology\, which is the most suited for ground-mounted systems in Africa\, for both ground-mounted captive C&I projects and large-scale grid-connected projects. \nThis event will be of particular interest to: \n\nBusiness and house owners looking to install solar at their facilities\nGovernment officials in charge of infrastructure and energy\nCompanies specialized in solar installation and project development\n\nRegister here
