SUMMARY:Africa Green Hydrogen Forum
DESCRIPTION:Africa has seen vast amounts of progress in green hydrogen developments across the region with countries such as South Africa\, Niger\, Mali and Namibia redirecting its focus on the utilisation of renewable energies through green hydrogen.. Technological and economic advances and explicit political and corporate support over the last two years have brought green hydrogen to the forefront of the energy and climate change agendas of many countries. Thus\, green hydrogen is poised to play a crucial role in realising net zero-emissions energy systems envisioned by 2050 by these nations. Green hydrogen is rapidly becoming the most suitable resource to expand energy access and drive socioeconomic growth in Africa\, while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. \nSupplying hydrogen to industrial users is now a major business around the world. Demand for hydrogen\, which has grown more than threefold since 1975\, continues to rise – almost entirely supplied from fossil fuels\, with 6% of global natural gas and 2% of global coal going to hydrogen production. \nWith revenues for green hydrogen projected to exceed $200 billion by 2027\, diverse opportunities will open up not only for renewable projects for its production\, but also to use it as a long-term energy storage technology\, to replace fossil fuels for mobility\, and to become a major part of manufacturing and process industries. The transition to green hydrogen could provide $11 trillion of infrastructure investment opportunities over the next 30 years making a global business focus. The number of countries with polices that directly support investment in hydrogen technologies is increasing\, along with the number of sectors they target. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:PAYGo Solar Accounting Brief: Shedding light on PAYGo accounting practices
DESCRIPTION:Accounting policies play a crucial but often overlooked role in the management of any company. As a relatively new sector operating primarily in emerging markets\, the PAYGo solar sector confronts this regularly. PAYGo solar companies have a challenge deciding which accounting policies they can or should use to manage their businesses and present them to the outside world. Investors in turn may find it difficult to understand what accounting standards a PAYGo company is using and how this affects its financial position or compares to its competitors. \nThe proliferation of accounting practices across PAYGo firms emerged as an important topic during the PAYGo PERFORM initiative–the different practices used could produce substantial impacts on the calculation of the PERFORM KPIs\, and in turn make a comparison of the KPIs across companies more difficult. To help address this\, IFC Lighting Global and GOGLA commissioned MFR to produce a review of accounting practices in the PAYGo sector\, with the goal of increasing awareness and transparency of the different accounting treatments used in PAYGo firms and their impact on financial reporting. \nJoin us on November 16 at 3:00 pm CET where GOGLA and IFC Lighting Global will officially launch this Accounting Brief. The webinar will introduce the participants to the brief\, share an overview of the accounting policies used by PAYGo solar companies\, and review the impacts this can have on financial reporting and the PERFORM KPIs\, using data collected from a group of PAYGo companies that devoted valuable time to share their practices. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Debunking Myths about lead-acid batteries
DESCRIPTION:  \nStorage is increasingly becoming the hot topic when talking about solar projects in Africa as there is a growing interaction between the two technologies. \nLithium-ion solutions have been very popular over the past 24 months\, as they are presented with many advantages compared to the historical lead-acid. \nBut lead-acid also offer great interest\, especially if this type of batteries is properly being sized and maintained. And project developers\, installers and end-users of solar systems should take a new look at this traditional storage technology to understand the real pros and cons before committing to one technology or the other. \nIn this online event we will host Ashish Saxena\, GM of Eastman Auto & Power\, one of India’s leading manufacturers of lead-acid batteries and with a long track record across Africa. \nAshish will remind us the basic concepts behind lead-acid storage\, but also give us a refresher about best practices with such technology to ensure long life and proper performance. \nThis event will be of particular interest to: \n\nAfrican solar installers and developers\nGovernment personnel in charge of energy and infrastructure\nPurchasing managers\nIndividuals considering solar for their own premises\n\nRegister here

SUMMARY:Renpower Africa Storage 2021
DESCRIPTION:Towards a greener economy enabled by Renewables + Storage\nTo achieve the goal of “carbon neutrality” and push the green agenda for governments and industries\, Energy Storage is an important foundation and key technology for building a new energy system with renewables as the main resource. According to BloombergNEF\, energy storage projects that provide transmission and distribution services will amount to a $277 billion market between 2020 and 2050. \nRenewables + Storage: it is expected that the Battery-Energy Storage Technologies (BEST) will further spur the market for renewable energy as grid-connected energy storage will be deployed. In Senegal\, the region’s first and large utility-scale application of battery storage is slated to be integrated to a wind farm to deploy around 60 MW hours of battery storage capacity. In the same region\, the World Bank Group has provided $465 Million to expand energy access and renewable energy integration in West Africa\, including battery-energy storage technologies. \nSouth Africa aims for 20 percent of renewable energy in its mix by 2030\, making officials include technical standards for integrating battery energy storage in the electrical grid and tendering for more than 1GWh of energy storage to make renewable energy projects dispatchable. \nIn addition\, Battery-Energy Storage Technologies (BEST) can mitigate grid congestion and defer the need for new power lines in off-grid sites. \nAs an effective solution for long-term energy storage\, Green Hydrogen will become more acute as renewables become the primary source of power. Hydrogen storage is a key enabling technology in applications including stationary power\, portable power\, and transportation. In this edition of Renpower Storage Africa\, the potential of Green Hydrogen in the region will also be addressed as leading nations like Namibia\, South Africa and Morocco are preparing to become green hydrogen hubs in the continent. \nJOIN US TO DISCUSS\n\nDeployment of energy storage in Africa – the missing link in the energy transition\nIncreasing renewable energy penetration through energy storage innovative solutions\nRenewable hydrogen – untapping the potential in Africa\nEnergy access – decarbonizing non-interconnected areas with centralized solutions and renewable mini-grids with storage\nBankability and financing structures available for energy storage project success\n\nAll these questions\, challenges and further prospects will be discussed in-depth during presentations and moderated panel discussions. Furthermore\, there will be live Q&A and direct networking available for all the attendees being linked to the conference platform. \nNot just a webinar – a full event experience!\nWhy attend:\n• 5 Panel Sessions in two days of online streaming – 7+ hours of valuable content;\n• 25+ expert leaders to learn about Energy Storage Systems + Renewable Energy in continental Africa;\n• Participate to the live Q&A and also access the on-demand recording of the event to view the presentations and panel discussions later on;\n• Access our platforms to network with attendees for up to 5 weeks after the event (create your profile\, schedule meetings\, messaging and more);\n• Connect from anywhere in the world & share business opportunities! \n \nWednesday\, 3 November 2021\n13:00 – 16:30 (Local Time in South Africa)\nThursday\, 4 November 2021\n13:00 – 17:00 (Local Time in South Africa)\nPlace: Virtual Platform (Online) \n\nREGISTRATION RATES\n1 delegate – Early Bird Rate: EUR 299 / Standard Rate: EUR 399\n2 delegates – Early Bird Rate: EUR 349 / Standard Rate: EUR 449\n3 delegates – Early Bird Rate: EUR 449 / Standard Rate: EUR 549\n*Early bird rate valid until 15 October of before.\n**Payment instructions will be given following your registration. \nFOR MORE INFORMATION\nJose Romero\nEvent Manager\njromero@euroconventionglobal.com\n+1 407 227 3831

SUMMARY:The Invisible Giant supporting your solar system
DESCRIPTION:Mounting structures include all existing options to fix solar equipment (roof-mount\, fixed ground-mount and tracker). \nThey are an essential yet often underestimated part of solar project. These structures often represent only 3-4% of total project cost\, yet a big fraction of the performance of the solar system is determined by the quality and longevity of the mounting structure. \nIt is therefore crucial to fully understand the differences between mounting structure options and providers\, in order to carefully select the most appropriate solution for a specific project. \nThis showcase will provide an overview of the different mounting structures for different kinds of projects\, delving into material types\, performance and warranties. It will also go deeply into tracker technology\, which is the most suited for ground-mounted systems in Africa\, for both ground-mounted captive C&I projects and large-scale grid-connected projects. \nThis event will be of particular interest to: \n\nBusiness and house owners looking to install solar at their facilities\nGovernment officials in charge of infrastructure and energy\nCompanies specialized in solar installation and project development\n\nRegister here

SUMMARY:Huawei Global Digital Power Summit 2021
DESCRIPTION:Huawei Global Digital Power Summit 2021 is set to open on October 16 in Dubai with more than 300+ individuals attending the physical event\, including executives from Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA)\, Group42\, ACWA Power\, du\, Uptime Institute and Engie. \n Huawei to announce joint actions across the energy and ICT industry chain to unlock green energy potential for a low-carbon smart society.\nDubai\, 8 October\, 2021 – To help organizations worldwide get better prepared to seize opportunities arising from a carbon-neutral world\, Huawei Digital Power will hold the Global Digital Power Summit 2021 in Dubai\, UAE\, on October 16th. The summit recognizes that the race to net-zero is on\, and that the target of carbon neutrality truly requires a global coalition and international actions. The selection of Dubai\, UAE\, to host the summit also reflects the importance of the Middle East region to Huawei’s global digital power business. \nEarlier this year\, Huawei Digital Power Technologies was established to accelerate energy digitalization and decarbonization. The company aims to integrate digital and power electronics technologies to accelerate clean energy generation\, to build green transportation\, sites and data centers\, as it focuses on building a better and greener future. \nIn the post-COVID world\, green economic recovery has garnered significant attention as world leaders are eager to bring economies out of recession through a redesign to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase the resilience of infrastructure and communities. To date\, 137 countries from the UN Climate Convention — responsible for 80% of global emissions — have committed to net-zero-emission targets. The key to carbon neutrality is the development of a new power system. \nWith a focus on digital innovations for a low-carbon and smart world\, the summit will bring together energy policymakers\, industry professionals in the data center\, ICT and renewable energy sectors\, and executives from across the world to discuss the challenges and opportunities of sustainable development and digital transformation. \nAt the upcoming summit\, Charles Yang\, the newly-appointed President of Global Marketing\, Sales and Services\, at Huawei Digital Power\, will kick off the event\, highlighting Huawei Digital Power’s commitment to building a low-carbon smart society. Yang is appointed to the new role having previously served as President of Huawei Middle East. \nAn exciting lineup of speakers from global industry players and Huawei partners such as Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA)\, Group42\, ACWA Power\, du\, Uptime Institute and Engie will share their own best practices\, success stories\, and use cases in improving energy efficiency via digitalization. \nHuawei Digital Power Contributes to the Successful Grid Connection of World’s Largest PV Plant at China’s Qinghai Province with its Smart PV Solution \nIt’s undeniable that no single company can succeed in the energy transition alone. Now more than ever\, building a sustainable and low-carbon future requires joint actions and collaboration from across the energy\, business\, and government ecosystem. Thus\, the summit puts a spotlight on the Huawei-backed ‘Call to Action’ statement that calls for energy industry companies around the world to set coordinates towards a net-zero energy sector. \nFor the first time in history\, Huawei believes that everyone can participate in a step-change in efficiency\, and the rare opportunity to reconcile the paradox between progress for all and a sustainable future for our planet. The company is thus committed to working with its customers and partners to build low-carbon and smart energy systems. \nHuawei will also have a full-on live stream experience of the summit. Registration for the online event can happen here. \n
