SUMMARY:RES4Africa to Host High-Level Conference in Rabat: Shaping a Future-Proof Energy System in Morocco
DESCRIPTION:In light of its long-standing collaboration with Moroccan partners and its commitment to supporting the Mediterranean region’s clean energy transition\, RES4Africa Foundation is organising the high-level conference Shaping a Future-Proof Energy System in Morocco. The event will take place on October 14th\, 2024\, at the Sofitel Jardin des Roses in Rabat from 09:00 to 14:30 (UTC+1). \nThe conference aims to foster a public-private dialogue on accelerating Morocco’s energy transition in alignment with the country’s national priorities and recent developments. It will bring together key energy stakeholders\, including representatives from public sector Institutions\, private sector leaders\, and international experts\, to discuss strategies for enhancing Morocco’s renewable energy landscape. \nMorocco has made significant progress in its energy transition over the past decade\, achieving a 20% share of renewable energy by 2020 and aiming for 52% of installed capacity by 2030. The country’s ambition extends to reaching 80% renewable energy in its energy mix by 2050\, as outlined in its Low Carbon Strategy. Additionally\, Morocco’s Green Hydrogen Offer (“Offre Maroc”) seeks to position the country as a leader in the global green hydrogen sector through a comprehensive\, incentive-driven approach. \nHowever\, achieving these ambitious targets presents several challenges\, such as water scarcity\, food security\, and land degradation—all of which are exacerbated by climate change and have direct implications for the energy sector. The conference will address these challenges and explore strategies to secure energy independence\, competitiveness\, and affordability while maintaining a strong commitment to green transition goals. \nThe event will also highlight RES4Africa’s ongoing activities in the country. This includes the First Executive School on Renewable Energies and Energy Transition in Morocco\, developed in collaboration with the University Mohamed VI Polytechnic. This initiative reflects the commitment to enhancing cooperation and partnership between Italy and African countries\, aligned with the Italian government’s Strategic Plan Italy-Africa\, known as the Mattei Plan\, which supports the energy transition. The gathering will also introduce RAISEMorocco\, a new accelerator initiative for innovative startups and entrepreneurs in the renewable energy sector In Morocco. \nRES4Africa invites all interested stakeholders to join this critical dialogue and contribute to shaping the future of Morocco’s energy system. Cet événement se tiendra le 14 octobre 2024 au Sofitel Jardin des Roses à Rabat\, de 09h00 à 14h30 (UTC+1). \nL’objectif de la conférence est de favoriser un dialogue public-privé sur l’accélération de la transition énergétique du Maroc\, en accord avec les priorités nationales du pays L’événement rassemblera les principaux acteurs du secteur de l’énergie\, notamment des représentants du secteur public\, des leaders du secteur privé et des experts internationaux\, pour discuter des stratégies visant à renforcer le paysage des énergies renouvelables au Maroc. \nLe Maroc a réalisé des progrès significatifs dans sa transition énergétique au cours de la dernière décennie\, atteignant une part de 20 % d’énergies renouvelables d’ici 2020 et visant 52 % de la capacité installée d’ici 2030. L’ambition du pays va au-delà\, avec un objectif de 80 % d’énergies renouvelables dans son mix énergétique d’ici 2050\, comme précisé dans sa Stratégie Bas Carbone. De plus\, l’Offre Maroc pour l’Hydrogène Vert (Offre Maroc) vise à positionner le pays comme leader du secteur mondial de l’hydrogène vert grâce à une approche globale et incitative. \nCependant\, atteindre ces objectifs ambitieux présente plusieurs défis\, tels que la sécheresse\, la sécurité alimentaire et la dégradation des terres agricoles — des problématiques exacerbées par le changement climatique\, qui ont des implications directes sur le secteur de l’énergie. La conférence abordera ces défis et explorera des stratégies pour garantir l’indépendance énergétique\, la compétitivité et l’accessibilité\, tout en maintenant un engagement fort envers les objectifs de la transition verte. \nL’événement mettra également en lumière les activités en cours de RES4Africa dans le pays\, notamment la Première Formation Exécutive sur les Énergies Renouvelables et la Transition Énergétique au Maroc\, développée en collaboration avec l’Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique.
