SUMMARY:Webinar - Cape Town: Transforming the electricity market for security of supply and longer term decarbonization
DESCRIPTION:After years of energy shortages\, the City of Cape Town is moving ahead with the procurement of up to 700 megawatts of new generation capacity from independent power producers; and from 2023\, Cape Town will start procuring utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) too. \nSouth Africa is in need of increased accessibility to high-quality\, sustainable\, and low-cost electricity. The country has been plagued by frequent load-shedding due to aging electricity infrastructure poor performing national coal powered plants\, with electricity availability factor (EAF) generally below 75% causing supply constraints. Eskom says there is currently a power shortage of nearly 14\,000 megawatts due to unplanned maintenance and has regularly introduced stage two and up to stage six load-shedding. \nThe City of Cape Town is undertaking a variety of initiatives in the medium to long-term to support energy security for economic growth. \nJoin this webinar to hear firsthand how the City of Cape Town plans to improve security of supply and mitigate intensifying load-shedding through their energy procurement programs: \n\nGet crucial information on Cape Town’s energy procurement program plans from the City’s officials themselves\nLearn how the City plans to reduce the impact of load-sheddingby increasing the penetration of renewables with battery energy storage systems (BESS)\nConsider the opportunities for growth of solar and storage behind the meter and get an overview of the future developments that you should consider in your strategy\n\nRegister Here
