SUMMARY:Global Off-Grid Solar Finance Summit
DESCRIPTION:There are nearly 760 million people in the world that have no access to electricity in their homes\, and countless enterprises and livelihoods that lack modern power. These people are some of the most vulnerable to climate change\, yet have contributed least to the climate emergency. \nThe industry has grown rapidly in the past decade into a US$2 billion annual market that serves 420 million people worldwide and is recognised as a pillar of the energy sector. Off-grid solar products power lighting\, mobile phones\, home appliances\, and productive use equipment such as water pumps\, cold chains\, and agri-processors. These services transform people’s lives through improved health and education\, reduced energy expenditures\, improved incomes and jobs\, and better connectivity and access to financial services. \nThe off-grid solar industry represents a US$20 billion investment opportunity with unique benefits: \n\nReach – Off-grid solar is affordable and can reach remote places; it is essential to achieve the universal electricity access target of SDG7\nSpeed – Off-grid solar can be deployed more rapidly than other options\, delivering impact sooner\nImpact – Off-grid solar empowers the most vulnerable households and businesses to build livelihoods and resilience\n\nOff-grid solar is a tool for climate adaptation\, mitigation\, and justice but has not yet received substantial climate investment. This Summit will convene industry stakeholders to explore the climate nexus and discuss the sources and instruments for increased capital flows. It will present a recap of the UN High-Level Dialogue on Energy and COP 26 and analyse how the sector can capitalise on this momentum. \nThis event will feature:\n\nOnline live-stream sessions on Day 1; high-level speakers and expert panellists will provide inspiration and insights.\n‘Virtual Boardrooms’ on Day 2; online interactive discussions on timely and relevant climate\, development\, and investment sector topics in curated small groups.\nNetworking drinks; an in-person evening get-together at venues in Amsterdam\, Nairobi\, and Washington.\nOnline Matchmaking: Connect with sector pioneers\, peers\, and investors.\nOnline Marketplace: Showcase your products and services to leverage connections within the industry.\n\nThe event is a must for investors\, companies\, and development partners with an active interest in mobilizing the off-grid solar and climate nexus. The previous virtual event in this series had nearly 900 participants attending from more than 100 countries. \nRegister here \n

SUMMARY:Debunking Myths about lead-acid batteries
DESCRIPTION:  \nStorage is increasingly becoming the hot topic when talking about solar projects in Africa as there is a growing interaction between the two technologies. \nLithium-ion solutions have been very popular over the past 24 months\, as they are presented with many advantages compared to the historical lead-acid. \nBut lead-acid also offer great interest\, especially if this type of batteries is properly being sized and maintained. And project developers\, installers and end-users of solar systems should take a new look at this traditional storage technology to understand the real pros and cons before committing to one technology or the other. \nIn this online event we will host Ashish Saxena\, GM of Eastman Auto & Power\, one of India’s leading manufacturers of lead-acid batteries and with a long track record across Africa. \nAshish will remind us the basic concepts behind lead-acid storage\, but also give us a refresher about best practices with such technology to ensure long life and proper performance. \nThis event will be of particular interest to: \n\nAfrican solar installers and developers\nGovernment personnel in charge of energy and infrastructure\nPurchasing managers\nIndividuals considering solar for their own premises\n\nRegister here
