SUMMARY:webinar: Key benefits of DC coupling ESS solutions
DESCRIPTION:Until now\, AC-coupled systems have been the solution of choice for coupling large battery storage systems to PV power plants\, due to their lower costs. These involve two or more energy systems (PV and storage systems or only storage systems) working separately from one another on the DC side. The energy paths are then coupled together on the AC side upstream of the connection to the medium-voltage grid / Point of Interconnection (POI)\, hence the name of AC coupling. \nIn the case of high DC/AC ratio\, the power limitation of POI has become another obstacle to increasing the revenue of photovoltaic power plants. Traditional storage plus solar applications have involved the coupling of independent and PV inverters at an AC bus. The equipment cost is high\, the technology is complicated\, and the system reliability can be poor. \nJoin this PV Tech TechTalk Product series webinar with major PV inverter manufacturer and ESS provider Sungrow to fully understand the key benefits and applications of DC-coupling solutions for utility-scale PV power plants across Europe. \nKey points: \n\nLearn about the key benefits of using Sungrow’s ST3727KWH(L)-D1250HV+SG3125HV-MV DC-coupling solution\nUnderstand how the DC-coupling solution provides essential functions for future proofing ESS integration and operation\nFind out why the system comes with minimalized system costs compared with AC solutions in certain cases\, enhanced energy conversion performance and higher levels of reliability and durability\n\nRegister here

SUMMARY:e-conference: Using end-user subsidies to achieve universal energy access
DESCRIPTION:Solar home systems\, productive use equipment\, mini grids\, and other decentralized renewable technologies transform the lives and livelihoods of those living in energy poverty\, and have provided first time access to millions of low income and rural households. Yet even before the COVID-19 pandemic\, estimates projected that hundreds of millions of people would still be unable to afford off-grid solar solutions by 2030. The impact of COVID-19 has pushed a further 70 million people into extreme poverty\, intensifying this “affordability gap”. \nEnd-user subsidies\, which directly reduce costs for consumers\, have the potential to address the affordability challenge and enable energy access for the most vulnerable communities. However\, for them to be as effective as possible\, they must be considered alongside other enablers\, such as supportive fiscal policy and supply side subsidies. In addition\, as end-user subsidies are complex and create the risk of market distortion – which can hamper other energy access efforts – they need to be designed very carefully. \nThis event will explore the ‘smart’ design of end-user subsidies to address this complexity and uncover solutions. It will have a particular focus on stand alone solar technologies. \nAt the event\, participants will: \n\nJoin energy access experts as they explore how end-user subsidies can fit within the ‘tool-kit’ of public financing solutions to achieve universal energy access\nShare their own experience and insights around end-user subsidy design challenges in the off-grid solar standalone space and ‘smart’ solutions\nLearn from\, and participate in the design of\, four pilot standalone solar end-user subsidy country programs\nIdentify clear next steps to advance clean energy access for hundreds of millions of people living in energy poverty\n\nFor further background on end-user subsides\, supply side subsidies and smart subsidy design\, please click HERE.
